MCS – Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
Initially I tried to use synthetic chelating agents such as DMSA and DMPS. However these agents produced extremely severe adverse reactions in my patients, especially those with multiple chemical sensitivities with impaired detoxification mechanisms. I soon began looking for natural, non-toxic detoxifying agents in order to avoid the severe fatigue producing and immune suppressing reactions that I experienced with synthetic chelators.
Realizing that glutathione levels were depressed in chronic metal poisoning along with thiol levels, antioxidants and essential minerals such as zinc, selenium, and magnesium and that glutathione was absolutely essential for the detoxification of metals and chemicals in the liver as well as for normal thyroid function, I put together a detoxification regimen using glutathione precursors such as acetyl cysteine and glutamine as well as lipoic acid, a natural thiol chelator known to support glutathione levels .
Selenium was added to support glutathione metabolism and to improve thyroid function along with magnesium and zinc to stimulate metallothionein synthesis. Cilantro was added to help mobilize CNS toxic metals and chlorella to prevent reabsorption of toxic metals from the GI tract. Other nutrients were added to protect mitochondrial function, to enhance membrane permeability, to protect CNS and visual function as well as leukocyte integrity and function.
Have you been tested for heavy metal toxicity?
